Middle School Chemistry

Objective 1
The student will become familiar with basic metric and english measurements such as: 
  • Mass
  • Volume 
  • Area
  • Length
  • Temperature

Objective 2
The student will learn how to record data by using tools such as:
  • Rulers
  • Scales
  • Spring Scales
  • Graduated cylinders
  • Timers
  • Thermometers
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Litmus paper

Objective 3
The student will become familiar with and be able to calculate density of various objects.


Objective 4
The student will be able to take and organize data using tables and graphs.

Objective 5 
The student will learn to read and follow directions to perform lab experiments.

Objective 6
The student will be exposed to different metric prefixes such as “milli”, “centi”, etc. 

Objective 7
The student will learn the importance of observation in science.

Objective 8
The student will learn about combustion.

Objective 9
The student will be exposed to the concepts of thermal energy such as: 
  • difference between heat and temperature
  • heat capacity
  • heat transfer!

  • The student will be exposed to the concepts behind acid and base reactions such as:

  • neutralization!

The student will learn the basics of atomic structure such as:

  • Diagraming Atoms (Bohr Model)

  • Isotopes

The student will learn the basics of the periodic table such as: 
  • Rows and Groups
  • Trends
  • Atomic Number
  • Atomic Mass
  • Number of bonds each element can make

Objective 13
The student will learn the basics rules of molecular composition. 


Objective 14
The student will be introduced to the concept of chemical equations and balancing chemical equations.


Objective 15
The student will be learn the basic states of matter, phase change, and the effects of temperature on matter.

Objective 16
The student will be introduced to the basic concepts of electrochemistry.
